Like I've never had to install drivers for that controller and it just works in every major OS I've tried whether it's OS X, Windows or Linux.Īnd since it's just a fully compliant USB MIDI/HID device you can use it in Ableton Live or other DAWs as a mixing desk or other interface, like an APC-40.

There are better and more open controllers out there for using with MIXXX that don't have weird proprietary firmware or rely on Rekordbox, and you can save some money going that route because you're not paying for Pioneer's software and DRM system. I always recommend not going with Pioneer/Rekordbox controllers with MIXXX. It's one of the reasons I switched away from Windows to Ubuntu Studio because of the stability issues and annoying shit like Windows trying to force updates before or during a show. Like I've never, ever had MIXXX crash on me while using it. It's also WAY more stable than OS X or Windows. I even keep a USB 3 drive on my keychain with Ubuntu Studio and a bunch of music pre-loaded on it so I can hijack basically any computer and turn it into an instant DJ rig for stuff like random house parties. You can even dual boot it with Windows or OS X, or run it off a live bootable USB or SD card. If you're using MIXXX you might also want to check out Ubuntu Studio, which is a media-focused version of Ubuntu that comes pre-loaded with tons of drivers/firmware, a very low latency kernel optimized for low audio/video latency and even comes with a ton of audio toys and tools, including audio host/routing apps like PulseAudio, JACK and so on.
